I am a relational and attachment informed trauma therapist. My style of counseling is a result of working with a wide range of people for two decades prior to starting a private psychotherapy practice ten years ago. What has most contributed to how I work with clients comes from supporting children and families of children with special needs or who were at risk of removal from the home. Traumatic experiences are often at the root of family system challenges. While it's a cliché that everything in therapy goes back to childhood, we are a mix of nature and nurture, of the family dynamics we grew up with and the experiences we've had along the way. For healing to occur we need to relearn how to interact with others in ways that feel safe.
Over the years I've delved deeply into better understanding and treating the effects of traumatic experiences. The result is earning certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), being a Level 3 student of the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), completing Level 2 of the Gottman Method of Couples Counselingand being trained in the Circles of Self projective assessment. In addition I have sought out training in use of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and am Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed. I stay up to date on and use a culturally and diversity competent approach.
I have experienced challenges in life and found healing in the same therapy modalities I offer you. I am passionate about sharing what I have learned because I personally know the tremendous capacity therapy has for healing. Research repeatedly proves the therapeutic relationship is a significant factor in treatment outcome. My hope is you will feel comfortable being vulnerable and open to learning new ways to be in your body and the world as we work on your goals. I have been told I provide a welcoming and safe place to have this experience, something we can begin to determine if is true for you during the intake session.
